Sarah Cowling has been working in acrylics and collage for more than twenty years.
Her art consists primarily of abstracted landscapes as well as themes of women’s issues, fantasy, and imagined places. Often pieces are created en plien air (even when working in collage).
Cowling grew up in the Niagara region and completed a Bachelor of Arts in History and Classical Studies (1975) and a Bachelor of Education (1976). She has attended a number of art classes and workshops through Western University and Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, and Haliburton School of the Arts in Haliburton, Ontario. In September of 2022, she attended an Artist Residency in Sanquhar, Scotland with the Kolaj Institute at the Merz Gallery.
Sarah Cowling’s collage has been collected internationally in private collections and her work has been included in several publications such as Collage Care, Created Here, and Art Doesn’t Have to Match Your Sofa. She has written an article for Kolaj Magazine (issue #35) on creating collage en plien air.
Sarah Cowling lives and creates in London, Ontario.
